There are Plenty of Baseball Camps in California to Choose From
DeMarini Top 96, America’s Baseball Camps, and Nike all host events in California. These national camps give high school athletes the chance to be seen by college recruiters, learn new workouts and drills, practice and hone their skills, and play games with other talented high school athletes. National baseball camps are a great choice for those who can attend, but if you can’t get to one of these camps this year, there are other options for you to consider that may be closer to home.
Local and University Baseball Camps in California
Look for a local camp in your area. There are dozens of camps being run by former players and coaches for local players. The Mark Cresse School of Baseball has four southern California locations, for example, and offers instruction to kids age five to eighteen. Several Mark Cresse alumni have gone on to college and professional baseball, after spending every summer at this camp. You’ll find plenty of other options in the rest of the state.
Another great option for serious athletes and beginners alike is a university or college baseball camp. UCLA, Cal, St. Mary’s, and Cal State Hayward all offer summer baseball and softball programs for young athletes. The good thing about attending a college camp is that it gives you a good idea of what college ball is going to be like. You’ll get to see how college practices are run, talk to current players and coaches about the college ball experience, and work out in their training facilities, which are often much better than what you’ll find at most high schools. You’ll also get the chance to talk with coaches about what they are looking for in new recruits. Some college camps are recruiting camps, like prospect camps, where the coaches will be watching specifically for new players that they think are promising. Attending a baseball camp in California like this is a great idea for a high school athlete that is trying to find a good college team fit.
