National Basketball Camps in California
In addition to the Michael Jordan Flight School, Nike, NBC camps, and Advantage Basketball Camps, you’ll find Point Guard College and Double Pump camps in California.
Point Guard College hosts several camps in the state. Founded in 1993, this national organization hosts camps for men and women age fourteen to twenty-three who want to improve their skills and become better athletes. Point Guard College arranges its instruction into five major instructional camps: Prep School, Think the Game, The Essentials, Advanced Concepts, and College Prep. These classes can be taken in out of order and together comprise the Point Guard College technique.
Double Pump is a regional camp option for the western United States. This organization hosts camps in California and other western states, and prides itself on the exposure it gives kids to college coaches and recruiters. Players spend time working on fundamentals, playing games, and getting personal instruction, all while being watched and evaluated by college coaches. There are also presentations on other aspects of becoming a college athlete, including classes on recruiting and the SAT.

California boasts a huge number of universities and colleges, both four year and two year institutions, and has colleges that play in every division of college ball. These universities and colleges host basketball camps for young kids and also for serious athletes. Chances are, there is a college near you that will be hosting a summer camp this year, so check it out to see what local options you’ll have this year. College camps are a great way to get to know the coach and current players. You’ll get a better idea of what college-level play is going to be like. You’ll get to practice and play against other talented kids from around the state, and maybe even around the country. It’s a great way to get in some serious instruction and game time in the off season.
