With three NBA teams—the San Antonio Spurs, Houston Rockets and Dallas Mavericks, Texas is as big in basketball as it is in most everything else. Young athletes who are looking for basketball camps in Texas have plenty to choose from, no matter what their age or skill level.
There are plenty of high-intensity camps out there for the elite player, but the Billy Gillespie camp located in College Station offers a great experience for boys aged 11 to 18 who play at any level. This week-long overnight or day camp is staffed by the Texas A&M coaching staff and members of the team. Head coach Billy Gillespie is the current Big 12 Coach of the Year.
Premier All Star Camps, in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, is open to boys and girls aged 6 to 14. Campers are grouped by age and skill level, and work with junior high and high school coaches, with an occasional appearance by pro players. There are age-level contests, 5 on 5 leagues, 3 on3 scrimmages, and instructional videos. The camp also awards players in such areas as hustle, desire and attitude, as well as physical skills.
Point Guard College Basketball Camps in Texas
The well-known Point Guard College offers three basketball camps in Texas. There’s the standard Point Guard College curriculum in Denton, the Essentials Basketball Camp for Girls in San Marcos, and an Advanced Concepts camp in San Antonio. Classroom learning sessions and video analysis sessions combine with court time to maximize learning opportunities and help young athletes work together, with an emphasis on leadership and communication skills. Most camp formats are open to high school and college players. There is a prep camp available at several locations for younger students.
