Attending College Basketball Camps Can Help

College basketball camps are a good way for high school athletes to get an idea of what college-level play is like. No matter how good you are, the difference between high school play and college play is pretty substantial and knowing what the competition and atmosphere is going to be like can help prepare you for a rewarding college career.

What You’ll Get from College Basketball Camps

Going to a college basketball camp will allow you to work with college-level coaches. You’ll get an idea of what a coach at this level is looking for in new players, how the team is run, and what sort of experience you can expect at the college level. You’ll also get to see what it’s like to play on a college court, with college equipment. This isn’t just the stuff you’ll see on-court. It’s also the exercise and training facilities that the school uses.

A college basketball camp will also give you the chance to compare yourself to other elite high school athletes. This can give you a rubric with which you can better evaluate your own skills. You’ll be able to see how athletes from other schools compare and where you will need to focus to improve. Working with other elite athletes who aren’t your regular team members can also help you learn how to adapt to different team members, which is always a good mental workout.

A college camp will also allow you to be seen by college coaches who may be looking for new players. Meeting and working with the coach from the school you want to attend can increase the odds that that coach remembers you when recruiting time comes around. You’ll want to make a good impression while you’re there, though, as unsportsman-like behavior is also likely to be remembered. In fact, being seen as a team player and good person can counteract a poor performance on the court, just as being seen as a mean person can make coaches disregard your skills.
