Who Should Consider Going to Basketball Camps?

Basketball camp isn’t for everyone. If you’ve been wondering if you should attend a camp this summer, here are the people most likely to benefit from the experience.

Players who want to make the varsity team. If you’ve started your basketball career on the freshman or JV team and want to move up next season, spending a summer at camp can teach you some valuable skills to improve your game. This will include drills that will improve your footwork, your jump shot, and your dribbling technique.

You’ll get a chance to play with others at your level and to learn exercises and techniques that you can incorporate into your personal practice routine (and if you’re serious about being a basketball player, you should have a personal practice routine, outside of the work you do at school practice).

Players who want to improve. If you want to improve your skills to get noticed or to help your team get farther this year, attending a basketball camp can give you a good grounding in the fundamentals of the game, and help you improve as a basketball player and as an athlete.

A general skills camp will focus on all aspects of the game, and on drills and exercises that will increase your speed and agility. A focused camp for point guards or centers will help you develop as a position player.

Older high school students looking for college scholarships and recruitment. If you are a high school junior or senior who wants to play college ball, you should consider attending at least one camp this summer.

If you have a school you’d like to attend, consider attending their summer camp. If you don’t have one, find a school that you like and respect. You should also consider national camps where coaches and recruiters from multiple schools will be present. This will get you the maximum amount of exposure for your camp dollar.
