Things to know about Cheerleading Camp

by Cheerleading Coach Janine Golubski

Team Cheerleading Camp is a time for most squads to come together and get to know each other. This experience can be good or bad depending on how the cheerleader and even the coach make it. I was a cheerleader all four years in high school and even coached for four years after I graduated, and every year we went to cheer camp. Most cheer camps for High School are done at colleges; however they can be done at the high school itself. For me, it was a better experience for us to be able to go out of town for cheer camp. It lets the cheerleaders have a better bonding experience and it also makes them work together as a team.

Most cheer camps are run by trained professionals who have their CPR and health licenses. Usually it’s the cheer coach(es) and maybe a parent chaperone. Parents are usually only allowed to attend on the last day of the camp.

Cheerleading camp can get expensive, so some schools opt for a one or two day camp at their high school. This is where the coach hires one or two professionals to come and do a camp at their own high school. This is also a little pricey, but not as bad as the other choice. It’s not nearly as fun for the cheerleaders, though.
