What to Do Before You Go to Sports Camps in Arkansas

Arkansas athletes who want to improve their game should look at sports camps as a way to supplement their regular practices. Team practice is good, but in the off season it can be difficult to maintain the same level of training and practice. By attending a sports camp in the off season, you’ll get a chance to play and learn and to keep your skills sharp for next season.

Before you start sports camp, make sure you are in good physical shape. If you haven’t practiced or played since the season ended, jumping into a sports camp experience, where the instruction and game time will consume your entire day, can be overwhelming. You’ll want to start working out again well before camp starts.

You’ll also want to make sure you are well hydrated before camp starts, so increase your fluid intake for a week or so before camp begins and keep it up while you’re training at camp to avoid dehydration. You’ll also want to make sure you’re getting proper nutrition before camp starts. If you attend an extended day or overnight camp, you’ll receive well-balanced meals while you’re there, but you’ll want to prime your body ahead of time with plenty of lean protein and fruits and vegetables.

Finally, make sure you’re mentally fit as well. Get back into the game mindset by reviewing tapes of past games, thinking about your sport, and focusing your mind. You’ll want to be in good mental shape when camp starts, so make sure you’ve got your personal life sorted out before you head off to camp. You don’t want to be distracted by anything while you’re there. You won’t be able to properly focus on the instruction and will generally make yourself miserable if you aren’t in it 100 percent.
