Sports Camps in Florida: Know Your Options
You’ll find a lot of sports camp options in Florida year round, not just in the summer. There will be camps for every major sport available in this state so you shouldn’t have much trouble finding one that fits your needs, from the single day clinic to the yearlong boarding school.
There will be plenty of national camp experiences, like Offense-Defense, Sports International, Nike, NBC, and others, to choose from. In addition, you’ll also find a lot of local camps run by former players or coaches. Universities in Florida also host camps for several sports. Which should you choose? That depends on your future goals and current skill level.
Most camps will offer several groupings, for young, new players and experienced serious high school athletes and everything in between. Don’t be concerned if a camp offers instruction to young or new players as well as experienced ones. You won’t be playing with kids who are younger, smaller, or less experienced. You can still get high-level, quality instruction at a camp like this.
If your goal is recruitment, you’ll want to look for a camp that mentions that specifically in its material. A lot of national camps will include something about recruitment, teaching you about how to best get recruited, bringing in scouts and coaches to evaluate players during the camp, or sending out evaluations to college coaches who aren’t in attendance, or all three. Not all camps are recruiting camps, even those run by a particular university, so make sure the material specifically mentions recruiting.
If you are interested in becoming a better athlete in general, in addition to a better player of your sport, look for a camp that focuses on strength training, speed drills, and other instruction that builds core athleticism. There are also camps that focus entirely on these underlying skills, like House of Speed, for athletes looking specifically for this type of training.
