Athletics Department of Assumption College
The athletics department of Assumption College has concentrations not only with the student-athletes, but with the physical and fitness welfare of all students. The department maintains the Plourde Recreation Center, which support intramural and recreational programs and also contains a modern workout center for students to keep fit. An athletic complex was built by the school and contains the Andrew Laska Gymnasium which is home to the basketball and volleyball teams; the Plourde Recreation Center, home of the women’s swimming and diving team and a versatile facility; H. L. Rocheleau ’24 Memorial Field for baseball; Multi-Sport Stadium for football, soccer, field hockey and lacrosse as well as outdoor intramural programs; Normand R. Marois ’56 Field for softball; the Tennis Courts, which is home for both men and women’s tennis; and the Cyprian Keys Golf Course, where men’s golf team practices and plays.

The athletic programs of Assumption College have a rich history and have always been committed to the attainment of academic excellence in combination with athletic success. Student-athletes are always encouraged to put education above sports, but still, a long list of successes is credited to the teams in baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, ice hockey, lacrosse, soccer, tennis and track & field for men; and for the women’s teams in basketball, cross country, field hockey, lacrosse, rowing, soccer, softball, swimming & diving, tennis, track & field volleyball. The varsity players are fierce yet clean and fair competitors at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II and the Northeast-10 Conference.

The students at Assumption College are understandably excited about their intercollegiate sports team – the Greyhounds, considered as the second most winning Division II program in New England history with over 900 NCAA game victories in a single year. The college is phenomenally successful with a 50-year domination of the men’s basketball team and a men’s tennis team that has captured the last 9 Northeast -10 Conference titles and regional appearances. 6 Greyhounds has already been awarded to Northeaat-10 Conference Student-Athletes of the Year and individual honors goes on with 13 NCAA post-graduate scholarships and 30 academic All-Americans. It is not uncommon to have 50% of the athletes averaging 3. 0 in their academics.

With over $29 million worth of scholarships and grants distributed to more than 90% of the students, Assumption College is committed to lend its hand to help students get a college education in whatever economic status they may be in. Starting with scholarships and grants, which do not require repayment, students are automatically qualified for the Assumption College Merit Scholarships as long as they maintain a specified grade point average. Other prestigious scholarships include the Presidential Scholars, Assumption College Scholars, Assumption Achievement Award and many others. Grants that are available to students include the Assumption College Grant, Federal Grants, State Grants and others. These aids are possible through the efforts of the Assumption, federal and state government, and organizations.
