How to Find Best Sports Camps
If you are planning on attending a sports camp this year, make sure to do some research first before sending any registration fees. Proper research should include checking on the camp’s history, it’s successes, and it’s reputation with coaches, parents, and former campers.
Things to Look for When Doing Research on Sports Camps
The first step is to read through the website of the sports camp you are looking at. You’ll want to make sure to read all about what the camp will offer and what they’ll expect from you. They should have a sample schedule available for you to look at, as well as a description of what they teach, how they teach it, and what their general philosophy is. You’ll want to make sure that what they teach is what you want to learn, that their approach to the game is something that you understand and agree with, and that the instruction is going to be something you can understand and appreciate.
Look for the camper to staff ratio. The lower the number of students to staff, the more one-on-one time you’re likely to get. This is a good sign that you’ll get solid instruction. If the camper to staff ratio is too high, you’re likely to be on your own as far as determining whether you are executing the drills correctly.
Check for a list of alumni. You’ll want to see how many of the former campers have gone on to college or professional level play. You’ll also want to read any testimonials they’ve got on their site from satisfied former players, parents, and coaches. If you aren’t sure about how truthful the listings are, do a quick Internet search for those alumni to make sure they ended up where the site said they did.
While years in business isn’t a foolproof standard, a camp that has been around for fifty years is probably on the up-and-up. This doesn’t mean that new camps aren’t legitimate. There are new camps for all sports every year. If the camp is newer, do an Internet search for the camp name to see if any other references to the camp come up, other than the camp’s website.
