Top Ten High School Sports Records in America
There are so many high school athletes in the United States, one wonders who are these kids that set and break records every year? From the smallest and most obscure records, to those that look like they could never be broken, these athletes have challenged themselves and raised the bar in the record books.
10. Travis Sullivan (Monticello Wayne County, KY): Travis set the national high school record for most wins over a high school wresting career, with 304 wins. He also won the 103 lb. Kentucky state championship as a freshman, sophomore, and junior. He finished state runner-up as a senior.
9. Jeff Kostqff (Upland, CA): In 1983, Jeff set not only a national high school record in the 500 yard freestyle, he also set an all time American record with an astonishing time of 4:16.39. This record has not come close to being touched.
8. Holly Currie (Pisgah, AL): From 2000-2003, Holly set numerous national high school softball records, including 159 all time wins as a pitcher, 365 career hits, 69 career doubles, and 61 career home runs.
7. Dothel Edwards (Athens Cedar Shoals, GA): Edwards took down the previous track and field high jump record with a historic jump of 7 ft. 5 ¼ inches in 1984. This record has held up for 25 years.
6. David Clyde (Houston, TX): Clyde dominated the high school baseball scene in Texas from 1970-1973. He set 14 national high school baseball records, 9 of which still stand today. 842 career strikeouts along with 29 career shutouts, are among his impressive still standing records.
5. Marion Jones (Thousand Oaks, CA): Long before she was setting Olympic records and stirring up controversy, Jones set a national high school record in the 100 meter dash with a 11.14 second time, which has held up to this day.
4. Michael Hart (Nedrow Onondega, NY): Over his varsity career, Hart rushed for a national high school record 204 touchdowns, breaking the previous record by 26 touchdowns. Hart went to on to star at the University of Michigan, and now plays in the NFL for the Indianapolis Colts.
3. Henry Neal (Greenville, TX): In 1990, Neal officially became the fastest high school athlete in American history with a 10.15 second 100 meter dash. That record still stands almost 20 years later.
2. Danny Heater (Burnsville, WV): Heater definitely lived up to his name on January 26th, 1960, when he erupted for 135 points by himself. And yes, that high school basketball record still stands.

Tim Couch (Hyden Leslie County, KY): In one of the most storied high school football careers in recent memory, Couch passed for 12,104 yards, setting the national high school record for career passing yards. Couch went on to star at the University of Kentucky, and was the #1 overall pick in the 1999 draft by the Cleveland Browns.
