Basketball Camps: What to Look For
What makes a good basketball camp? That depends on what you are looking for. If your main goal is to become a better basketball player, then a camp that focuses on training and skills, both physical and mental, is going to be the best for you. This can be a general skills camp or a specialized camp for position players. Both should give you the kind of experience you’re looking for.
A good basketball camp will focus on giving you the tools you need to continue to work on your game outside of the camp setting. You’ll learn drills to improve your speed and agility, as well as those designed to improve your jump, shooting, and dribbling. Having a firm grasp of these fundamentals will allow you to continue to train and hone your skills, on and off the court.
A good camp will also spend time on the mental aspects of the game. Being a good athlete is only partly about being stronger and faster. It’s also about being smarter. You’ll need to work on being able to see all the other players around you, and how to stay focused, even when things aren’t going your way. A good athlete also has a good attitude and will remain on the top of their game, whether their team is winning or losing.
If your goal is recruitment, then a showcase camp may be a better option for you. A showcase is not a good choice for campers who aren’t old enough for recruiting. They are intended for older high school athletes who are making decisions about where they are going to attend college.
