Baseball is America’s pastime. Kids have grown up playing baseball for years, often gaining their circle of friends through their baseball teams. Baseball players have the ability to train individually instead of as a team. Thus, as a team sport, baseball is the most likely sport to have a team send multiple players to one camp and never train together. Baseball camps have become so specialized, that pitchers, hitters, and fielders can all have their own separate camps. Let’s take a look at your options when it comes to baseball camps.
For advanced players, traditional baseball camps in ohio are quickly going by the way side. The days of fielding a team at camp and hitting fly balls and fielding ground balls is now only reserved for pre game warm-ups. Private or small group instruction is what gets players the most bang for their buck. With many ex-professionals and renowned coaches living all over the country, finding private instruction is not usually difficult.
Growing up in Indiana, I took private pitching lessons from an ex-professional who played 10 seasons in the minor and major leagues. This was before many people were even taking private lessons. With many more services available, it’s a buyer’s market now for private baseball instruction.
If your child is new to baseball, or an intermediate youngster, a more traditional baseball camp is the way to go. All baseball fundamentals are taught, such as fielding, hitting, base running, and sportsmanship. For players without a lot of experience, these are valuable tools to learn at an early age, and will only be reinforced as they play the game more. There is no need to focus on any one area, when many area need to be covered. With so many aspects to baseball, most beginners won’t remember all they were taught, but the next time they attend a baseball camp, it will quickly come back to them!
Unless there are no good baseball camps near you, there is no real reason to attend over night baseball camps. If you’re a good player, most of what you’ll learn will specific to pitching, hitting, or fielding, whatever you choose to focus on. Day baseball camps or private instruction for several hours a day will be all you need to sharpen your skills and become the best player you can.
