General and Focused Baseball Skills Camps 2018 for Men and Women
There are two types of baseball skills camps, general and focused. Different camps will be a better choice for you depending on your age, level of experience, and future goals.
General Vs. Focused Baseball Skills Camps
A general baseball skills camps will focus on all aspects of the game. This includes physical aspects, such as fielding and batting, as well as mental aspects, like knowing how to read runners or keeping yourself focused and in the game, no matter how it’s going.
A good general focus camp will work on both sides of the game, as well as teaching you drills that will improve your general athleticism and baseball-specific skills, general workout tips, and even nutrition help. You’ll find general skills camps hosted by national organizations and universities and colleges. These camps can be for young athletes or older high school athletes, or even college players.
A focused baseball skills camp will either be designed to improve your gameplay at a particular position or in an area of expertise. Position camps can include pitching camps, catchers camps, or first baseman camps. Area of expertise camps would be fielding camps or batting camps. Focused camps are a good choice for players that already have a strong grasp of the fundamentals, no matter what their age. You’ll find focused camps for eight year olds and eighteen year olds.
Which type of camp should you attend? If you are a younger player, a general camp is the best choice. While there are focused camps for young players, specializing too early can lead to injury or burnout.
This doesn’t mean that general skills camps are just for younger players. Older players can also benefit from the practice, as well as the challenge of playing with new teammates, and the chance to learn things that you can add to your own personal workouts and drills.
Attending a focused baseball skills camps for the position you play is a good idea, but consider attending a camp for something you aren’t as good at, as well. Every player benefits from becoming a better batter, for example, even if that isn’t the focus of their career goals.
