Three Reasons to Attend Baseball Summer Camps
Deciding whether or not to attend a summer baseball camp is a decision many high school athletes have to make. Here are some reasons why you might want to try one this summer.
You want to hone your skills. Spending time in the off season focusing on baseball will help you keep your game sharp and to develop new skills. You may want to attend a traditional camp, where all aspects of the game will be worked on, or a focused camp where a specific skill set will be improved. A batting workshop or fielding camp can be a good way to get the extra practice you need in a particular area.
You want to see how you rate against other players. Traditional and focused summer baseball camps will give you a chance to practice and play with and against players from other cities or even other states. This will allow you to test yourself against players you may not encounter during the regular season. It can be a good way to evaluate your skills to see where you are above average and where you need to improve.
You want to be seen. University camps, prospect camps, and showcases can give you the exposure you need to seen and evaluated by college coaches. The coaches may not be actively recruiting at the camp you attend, but you will be able to find out who you should contact when you are looking for a college team. Even if you aren’t at a camp where you will be seen by the coach or recruiter for the team you eventually want to join, you’ll get an idea of what coaches are looking for at that level, which will give you an idea of what you need to work on.
