University Basketball Camps in Alabama
Many colleges and universities host camps for high school athletes. These camps are designed to teach young athletes the fundamentals, acquaint them with college life and college ball, and sometimes, to scout for potential new recruits. Four year colleges and universities in all NCAA divisions, as well as junior and community colleges, host camps. If there is a school that you would like to attend and play for, find out if they will be hosting a camp this year. It can be a good way to get to know the coach there, see what their equipment and court is like, and meet the current players.
University camps are often overnight affairs, but not exclusively so. Many will offer the choice of being an extended day camper instead of an overnighter. This means that you’ll get the same instruction as the overnight campers, and some of the same meals, but you won’t be staying in the college dorms. This option will be less expensive than being an overnight camper, while still getting you the same level of instruction and game time. If you live near the campus, or have a family member who does who will put you up for a week, this can be a good way to get all the benefits of the camp at a slightly reduced price.
If there aren’t any university basketball camps in Alabama this year, look at neighboring states if you can afford to travel further for camp. Most camps allow out-of-state students to attend and going out of state can be a good way to meet high school athletes you’d never get a chance to play with during the regular season. Some colleges attract hundreds of out-of-state students every year, because of the quality and reputation of their program. Duke University is one of these schools.
