There are basketball camps that are national organizations with camps held all over the country every year and camps that are run by local former coaches or players that are geared more toward teaching local kids more about basketball. While the national camps are better known, some local camps offer comparable instruction and attract athletes from all over the US.
National and Local Basketball Camps in Oregon
If you are looking for a national camp this summer, consider Point Guard College. Point Guard College is one of the nation’s most famous basketball camps. With five different camp options for kids from age nine to twenty three, the camp focuses on teaching fundamentals, both mental and physical. High school athletes can choose between three different core courses which together comprise the Point Guard College curriculum. Not every course is available at every camp every year, so check to see which PG camp(s) will be available in your state this year.
Oregon also has local camp options. Located in Vernonia, Oregon, The Larry Steele Basketball Camp was founded by former NBA player Larry Steele. The coaching staff is made up of high school coaches and college players. The camp offers five-day overnight camps for boys and girls from ages nine to eighteen, with an additional camp just for high school age boys. There is also a four day overnight shooting camp that is coed.
