Top Basketball Camps in Rhode Island
Student athletes have several excellent basketball camps in Rhode Island to choose from, including the Red Auerbach Basketball School in Smithfield, the oldest basketball camp in the country. For fifty years, this camp has taught boys 12 to 18 the fundamentals of the game through clinics and stations, plus four full games a day. All skill levels are welcome, and every player gets equal time. Summer 2010 camp will have a special opening day ceremony to mark the 50th anniversary of the camp that counts Larry Bird, Bill Russell and John Havlicek as alumni, along with scores of other legendary players.
Basketball Camps in Rhode Island at Providence College
The campus of Providence College hosts several types of basketball camps to choose from. The Providence Basketball Camp for boys allows students to work with coach Keno Davis. In 2008, Davis was named National Coach of the Year by six organizations, including the Associated Press, the U.S. Basketball Writers Association and The Sporting News. There are several divisions to choose from, including Rising Stars for ages 7 to 10 and 11 to 13. All Star overnight or commuter camps are for ages 9 to 18.
For girls who are looking for basketball camps in Rhode Island, Coach Seymour’s Girls Basketball Camp, also on the Providence College campus, offers a shooting school plus overnight and day camps. The day camp is open to all ages, while the overnight camp is open to girls entering grade 6 to 12 and the shooting school is open to those entering grade 5 to 12. The shooting school covers all the fundamentals of shooting, including jump shots, foul shots, shooting off screens, shooting off the dribble, three-pointers and more. Instruction will also be provided on proper layups, jump shots and offensive moves to the basket.
