How To Choose College Sports Camps
There are three basic kinds of college sports camps. Knowing which type will best serve your interests will help you choose the right camp for you.
The Three Types of College Sports Camps
The first type of college sports camp is a skills camp. These can be general camps that focus on improving your skills in all aspects of the game. A general baseball camp, for example, will have campers practicing fielding, batting, and general athleticism.
Some camps focus on particular aspects or skill-sets. These would include pitching camps, quarterback camps, and shooting camps for basketball players. Camps like these are best if your main focus is improving your game and learning more about your sport.
The second type of camp is the prospect camp. These camps are held by universities and colleges to allow the coaching staff to see and evaluate prospective students. These camps are recruiting tools, but only for the school hosting the event.
If you really want to attend the school hosting the camp, this is a good opportunity to be seen by the people who will decide whether you’ll get in or not.
A showcase camp will allow you to be seen by coaches and recruiters from several schools at once. This is a good choice for student athletes who want to be seen and considered by multiple schools, either because they haven’t already chosen a school, or even if they want some leverage to negotiate with the school of their choice.
All three types of camp will still ensure that you’ll be receiving quality experience. Even if you aren’t going to be seen by the school of your choice, you will still learn more about your sport, meet other student athletes, increase your skill level, and, most importantly, have fun!
