Information about Football Camps
Football is the new king of American sports. With many of todays top athletes gravitating toward football, there’s one sure fire way to raise your skill set to get recruited for a college scholarship. Football camp! Just as many sports camps today are becoming specialized, football is no exception.
While the teamwork that goes into school practices builds teamwork and familiarity, the skills learned and honed at football camp can give you the edge you seek over your opponent. In the 4th quarter with the game on the line, the extra repetitions you took over the summer at football camp can be the difference between winning and losing. Let’s take a look at your options when searching for the football camp that best fits you.
We must first start with your position. There are usually separate camps for linemen and skill position players. Offensive and defensive linemen are very dependent on their technique, since they operate in such closed spaces, that they need to work exclusively against each other. Receivers and running backs work in open spaces, so they focus on vision and cutting. Same goes for their defensive counterparts, defensive backs and linebackers. Quarterbacks must know where all players on offense are, so they work in their own separate world with separate coaches.
If you are a skill position player at football camp, most of your time will be spend with your position coach, working on route running and catching the football. Since the linemen are usually at another camp, the way to practice versus a defense is 7 on 7 drills.
These are game like situations, involving offense and defense, but with no linemen present to block. The quarterback usually has 3-4 seconds to throw the ball, simulating real time game action. This gives the defense a reasonable amount of time to stop the offense, since they cannot pressure the quarterback.
The linemen focus on blocking and footwork, so they must either be separated from the skill position players during drills, or have an entire camp to them. There are many good reputable linemen camps across the country. You shouldn’t have a hard time finding a good one close to you.
With coaches coming from all over the country to work at many of top football camps, work hard, ask questions, and show them you are committed to getting better at your position. You never know who might be watching and keeping tabs on you!
