Develop All Your Skills at High School Sports Camp
Most sports require that players be good at offense and defense, regardless of your position. While basketball and baseball players obviously will perform both aspects of the game, every athlete, even football players, will occasionally find themselves on the other side of the game once in a while. An interception can force the offensive line to have to defend or turn the defenders into offensive scorers.
This is something to keep in mind when considering attending a sports camp. If you are a pitcher, you may want to spend a week at a batting camp, for example. It’s important to be a good, all-around player, especially if, like most professionals, you aren’t a prodigy in one area.
A high school pitcher with a 100 MPH fastball and a streak of no-hitters may get recruited even if they can’t bat above a .100. If you aren’t at that level, don’t despair. You can still get a scholarship to a good D1 school and you’ll improve your chances by improving other aspects of your game.
The same is true for other athletes. A basketball player who can shoot three-pointers and defend the hoop is going to have a better shot than the guy who’s only strength is shooting. The point here is that a well-rounded player is a better prospect than a prodigy with obvious weaknesses.
General Skills High School Sports Camp Can Be a Good Choice
This is why general sports camps still have a place in the high school sports game. A general camp will give you a chance to work on all aspects of the game, offensive and defensive, and learn more about the mental aspects, as well. Spending some time in the off-season practicing can keep you sharp and focused.
If you have your heart set on a focused skills football camps in Ohio, this is still a good choice. Getting better at what you do best isn’t a bad idea. It’s just a good idea to keep both types of camps in mind when making your decision this summer.
