Receiver Camps Teach Mental and Physical Skills
Receiver camps focus on teaching high school and youth athletes how to improve their technique, their speed, and their ball handling. It isn’t just about catching the ball and running toward the end zone. You’ll also learn how to avoid blocks and tackles and how to best maneuver on the field. Camps will also often include drills and workout instruction, as well as tips for how to train in the off-season.
Being a good receiver isn’t just about completions and yardage. Look for a camp that focuses, not just on the how, but on the why. Knowing why you do certain things when you go for the pass is as useful as knowing how to place your feet and how to catch the ball. With that kind of knowledge, you’ll be able to handle every situation, even if it has never come up in practice or training before.
Receiver camps are often one or two day affairs. You’ll also be able to get some instruction and practice time in at a general skills camp. If you can’t find a receiver camp in your area, consider attending a general football camp instead. You’ll get some practice in, as well as some specialized instruction, though not on the level of a receiver-specific camp or clinic. At a general skills camp, you’ll also get the opportunity to play games with your fellow campmates. This is something you aren’t likely to get from a specialized camp, as the other position players won’t be around.
Quarterback and Receiver Camps
Receiver camps are often coupled with quarterback camps for obvious reasons. If you can’t find a camp for receivers in your area, look at the quarterback camp offerings. You may find that they also include receiver training. You can find a list of the receiver and quarterback camps in your state at SportsCampConnections.com.
