Like these great starts, many young players continue to work on their game each summer at one of the many Sacramento basketball camps.
This summer alone, several Sacramento Kings players will be hosting summer basketball camps in Sacramento for local youth atletes. Bobby Jackson will be running a camp for players between the ages of 8 and 18, Vlade & Peja’s basketball camps will be for players between the ages of 9 and 17 and Damon Jones Basketball Camp will be for players between the ages of 12 and 17. Players learn from the pros at these Sacramento basketball camps, which is ideal, if you are considering professional basketball as a career.

Sacramento is a city known for its love of basketball. Home to the Sacramento Kings, of the NBA, the city has seen its fair share of star power with such players as Jason Williams, Vlade Divac and John Barry. The excitement surrounding a professional basketball team and competitive college teams has made basketball the number one spectator sport in Sacramento. There are several basketball camps in Sacramento for the youth athlete to choose from.
Popular Sacramento Basketball Camps
The Kings, in association with the national basketball academy, host one of the most popular basketball camps in the Sacramento area. Individual Kings players also host camps in the Sacramento area during the off season.
Sacramento State University hosts both men’s and women’s basketball camps. The camps are staffed by Sacramento State Hornets coaches and players. The boys varsity team camps are for grades 9-12, while the junior varsity team camps are for grades 9-10. Boys youth camps are divided into age groups of 5-9 and 10-15. Women’s basketball camps provide for a high school/AAU appropriate camp and a youth camp for girls grades 2-7. All campers are instructed in the fundamentals of basketball while training at the Well facility on campus. Additionally, varsity and junior varsity campers get to play games at the Hornet’s nest, home to the University’s men’s and women’s basketball teams.
Another popular basketball camp in the Sacramento area is the Sly Park Basketball school. Located just an hours drive east of Sacramento it has been popular with campers since the early 1980’s. Run by coach Steve Williams, this is a one-week residential camp with each day packed full of instruction, practice, and tournament style games. Open to campers in grades 5-12, the school boasts a large list of alumni that have gone on to play basketball in college.
