Information about Softball Camps
Softball is truly one the few girls sports that employs power, speed, and agility. The success of the Women’s Olympic Softball Team, which won the gold medal in 1996 and 2004, has lead more girls to play softball. The formation of a new women’s fast pitch professional league now give girls aspirations to play professionally. All of these factors lead to girls that are seeking to improve their skills, to look for the right softball camp.
Much like baseball, softball players can focus on pitching and hitting indoors, which is great for private instruction. Those that seek fielding work need to be on the playing field. Unless you live in a warm weather state, most outdoor softball camps can only take place in the summer. With most sports camps taking place in the summer anyways, this shouldn’t be a problem. Here are a few softball camps that could help your game.
US Fastpitch Camps offer many camp locations across the country, and have the endorsement of the most famous softball player today, Jennie Finch. In 2009, US Fastpitch Camps will host overnight week long camps in Pittsburgh, Seattle, Santa Barbara, San Diego, and Texas. They also will host day camps at various locations throughout the summer. US Fastpitch Camps boast an impressive display of top level coaches and former players, looking to push your daughter and get their game where they want it to be.
Another great softball camp is held on the campus of UCLA. Coach Kelly Inouye-Perez and her staff of coaches and players accept campers 9-18, with overnight or day camper options. This is an all inclusive camp, with equal emphasis on fielding, hitting, pitching, base running, and all other aspects of the game. With Coach Inouye-Perez running a highly successful college program, she also teaches campers about strength and conditioning, and offers high school players information on recruiting and college options.
The UCLA softball camp offers an advanced camp for well versed players and a fundamental camp for those less experienced. Fundamentals and instruction take place during the morning and afternoon, with games taking place at night. A full day for any camper!
Whether you’re looking for a reputable university coach or a less renowned instructor, many good options are available to help your daughter elevate her softball skills. Remember you’ll be out in the sun all day, so don’t forget your sunscreen. Good luck in your search!
