Sports Camps in Idaho: What to Look For
The schools in Idaho play host to a number of sports camps every year, in a variety of sports. Idaho athletes can spend a day, a week, or more learning about the sport they love at a campus near their homes. If you’ve been thinking about sports camp this summer or winter holiday, here are some things to look for.
Three Things Sports Camps in Idaho Should Do
There are many different ways to throw a ball, block a shot, run down the field, or protect the goal. Some camps have a particular technique that they teach, while others have a particular way of teaching. This is great if you are interested in learning this technique, or think that it can help you. If you aren’t, though, look for a camp that is going to offer more generalized instruction.
You’ll want to find a camp that spends some time focusing on the mental aspects of your sport. It’s easy to find a camp that spends ample time working drills, exercises, and games to build your physical skills, but harder to find a camp that spends as much time as it should on the mental game. Being a good athlete means being able to see the play, the next play, and knowing, instinctively how to react. Look for a camp that is going to teach you how to read the field, anticipate plays, and how to react when things suddenly change.
Try to find a camp that is going to include game time. It’s great to learn new skills and spend time practicing them in a drill situation, but putting those skills to the test in a game setting will help you to remember what you’ve learned and how to put it into practice once you’ve left the camp. Game time shouldn’t be the entirety of the experience, but game time can be invaluable to a player who has just learned some new skills.
