A Summer Baseball Camp Can Improve Your Skills
A great pitcher is a good catch for any school. A pitcher who can also bat is even better. If you are a pitcher, going to a pitching camp would seem to be the best option, but improving your other skills can be even more rewarding and helpful. This is something to consider when choosing a summer baseball camp. It’s easy to forget that focusing on the one aspect of the game that you are particularly good at can lead you to neglect the other, equally important aspects. Having multiple areas of expertise can really help improve your chances with recruiters.
This isn’t true of just pitchers, of course. All fielders need to learn to bat well if they want a chance at college or professional level play. Likewise, good hitters need to be good fielders, too. Going to a specific skills camp for the thing you aren’t as good at will make you a better all-around baseball player.
Some Things to Remember When Choosing a Summer Baseball Camp
This is why general baseball camps can still be a good idea, even for experienced, dedicated players. Practicing all aspects of the game in the off-season is a great idea. It’s important to select a camp that will be geared to your level, though. An introductory-level camp probably won’t do you much good. Make sure to look for a camp that is intended for serious players.
If you really want to attend a camp for a specific area of the game, you should do that. You can always be a better catcher or shortstop and getting some quality instruction from a professional or college level coach will help improve your game. The most important thing to remember here is that baseball camp should be fun.
If you’re considering attending a college or university camp, remember that they won’t all be the same. Just because a camp is held on a particular campus doesn’t mean that you’ll be scouted by that school. Unless the camp is specifically a recruiting camp, like a prospect or showcase camp, don’t immediately assume that you’ll be considered by that school.
