What Do You Want Out of US Sports Camps?
There will be thousands of opportunities across the country for the high school age athlete to attend a camp for their sport this year. If you aren’t sure which camp is best for you, consider what your goals are. Are you interested in getting the chance to play games or matches against other, talented athletes your age? Are you looking for specialized instruction on technique, drills, or fundamentals? Are you looking for a fun way to increase your skills and meet like-minded people? Are you trying to be seen by college coaches and professional recruiters?
Believe it or not, there are sports camp opportunities that will do all of those things. You’ll want to look at national camps, like those sponsored by Nike, and university camps designed and run by college sports teams. These two types of camp are the most likely to offer all of the above options to campers.
It’s important to remember that not all university camps are recruiting camps. When looking at university and college camps, make sure that the material mentions recruiting specifically. If it doesn’t, you may still be seen and considered by the host school’s coaching staff, but there isn’t any guarantee that they’ll be watching with an eye toward recruitment. It’s also important to remember that some camps teach you things about recruiting, but don’t necessarily offer recruiting opportunities themselves. This can still help you accomplish your goals of being recruited by a college or pro team. It will do so by showing you how to get noticed by these coaches and scouts and how best to market yourself.
