University Football Camp at Schools You Want to Attend
Certain colleges and universities are known for their football programs. Attending a camp at a well-known “football school” can be advantageous for serious athletes, especially if their goals include playing for that school.
At the very least, you know that the coaching staff at that school will be top-notch. If you can attend a camp at the school you want to go to, by all means, give it a try. You’ll get to meet the coaching staff and find out how the team practices.
Schools known for academics also host football camps. If you want to find a good school for a solid academic education where you can also play football, you might want to attend academic university camps. After all, college is about learning, as well as football, and if you don’t plan to go pro, you’ll want a good education to back up that degree.
University Football Camp Doesn’t Guarantee Recruiting
It’s important to remember that attending a university camp at the school you want to attend is not synonymous with being scouted by that school. Some camps are just about improving your skills and the coaches won’t expressly be watching with an eye for future recruiting.
That said, getting to know the coaches for the team you have your eye on can help you determine what you will need to work on or what highlights to put on your DVD to impress that particular coach when recruiting does start.
If you do make a good impression, it is likely that the coach will remember that when recruiting does start. Conversely, a bad impression may also be remembered, so try to keep on your best behavior while you’re there.
Other university camps are specifically for recruiting purposes. These camps will include a notice that they are actively looking at attendees as potential recruits, so keep an eye out for that when looking at different camp listings.
